Message from RCMP Re: Auto Theft

Boyle RCMP provides tips to protect against auto theft

Boyle, Alta – This August, and always, the Boyle RCMP want to remind everyone of the proper precautions to prevent auto theft.

Over the course of the first quarter of this fiscal year for Boyle RCMP, there have been 15 reports of various types of vehicles being stolen.  Majority of these reports are coming from rural areas within the Boyle RCMP jurisdiction.  With remote rural areas being more opportune for thieves, police would like to remind the public to look out for one another in order to combat incidents of thefts.

To prevent auto theft, Boyle RCMP encourages you to keep the following tips in mind:

  • Always lock your vehicle.
  • Never keep personal belongings store in your vehicle.
  • Keep important documents, including things with personal information, out of your vehicle.
  • If possible, store your vehicle in a locked garage when you are not using it.
  • Park in well-lit areas, or keep your porch light on to deter thieves.
  • Install a tracking system or an alarm system in your vehicle.
  • Install security cameras that has a clear view of your vehicle(s).
  • Never leave your keys, loose change, or other valuable items in your vehicle.

If you see something suspicious, report it to your local police service. If you see a crime in progress, call 911. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
