Message From Council

The Summer Village of Mewatha Beach was incorporated in 1978 as a summer village under the provisions of the Municipal Government Act at the time.

At that time it was essentially a place folks spend weekends and possible some summer vacation. Prior to the incorporation it was part of the County of Athabasca but those owning property at the time felt they wanted direct control over the area  that now comprises the Summer Village. The village has grown over the years with  a vast number of people building modern cottages.

Slowly over time some folks decided to retire at the lake and have become permanent residents. The number of permanent residents has  grown to well over 125 people. The Summer Village, the lake and surrounding area has become a year round recreational area with summer activities like swimming , boating , quading,  fishing ( although there are many that also ice fish ). In winter snowmobiling  and other winter activities take place.

The residents and Summer Village Council are dedicated to making the village a safe enjoyable area and one that respects the environment and the abundant wildlife.
